Brush Fire

08.03.2010

On August 3rd @ approxiamtely 11:00 am First West Chester was called out to Pinnacle Overlook in Lancaster County for a 3 acres brush fire on highly rocky and steep terrain.  The area was extingusihed by local fire companies and the crews were asked to do spot fire extingushment and gridding.  During this process a crew member from wagontown slipped down one of the large rocky areas and severly injured his leg. The crew member could not safely leave the area under his own power and so the decision to begin a rescue/extrication of the crew memeber was made.  The rescue/ extrication took approximately 15 minutes after rigging and packaging was completed to safely hoist him up the steep grade.  While the wagontown crew memeber was hoisted out of the area, the rest of the crew contiued the gridding spot fire process over the remainder of the 3 acres.  First West Chester returned to station at approxiamtely 5:30pm.
