Wildland Fire

04.07.2010

On April 7, 2010 The First West Chester Fire Company Forestry Crew was dispactched to assist District 11 on the Tunnel Road Fire in Luzerne County.  Upon our arrival, area crews were attempting to contain the 300+ acre fire.  Warden 17-9 Darin Groff took over Incident Command.  Crews that had been working the fire were released and the support crew from District 17 took over the mountain operations.  The crew consisted of Warden Darin Groff, Warden Ryan Hopkins, Asst. Chief Dale McClure, Captain Steve Pelna, FF Justin McClure, and 9 members of the Keystone Forestry Crew.  The crew immediately assisted with extinguishing spot fires and controlling the back fires lit to control the spread of the head of the fire.  The crew cut a one mile line through heavy scrub oak to an area road.  The night was spent patrolling the mountain. Crews were released approximately 24 hours later.
