| The recent ice storm that swept through the greater Chester County area, taxing emergency responders, municipalities, and utility companies, has caused many area residents to lose power and forced road closures.
In preparation for the storm members of Station 51, along with the rest of the West Chester Fire Department, staffed the station and apparatus from Tuesday night into Thursday morning. The volunteers from First West Chester answered a total of 23 storm related incidents, while the West Chester Fire Department as a whole answered 60 calls for service. Along with the multiple single company incidents, the department responded to 3 house fires. Two incidents in the Borough were covered by mutual aid while WCFD units were busy at other incidents.
In total Station 51 responded to 9 wires/transformer calls, 7 automatic fire alarms, 4 carbon monoxide alarms, 2 house fires, and 1 reported barn fire.
Anyone requiring assistance due to the storm should go to www.chesco.org/des or call the Chester County EOC at 610-344-5195. PECO is working diligently to restore power. If your power is out do not call 911, call PECO at 1-800-841-4141. Stay away from all downed wires, as they could be energized. |
