| It is with deep regret and sadness that the Officers and Members of the First West Chester Fire Company announce the untimely passing of President Ralph Kramer. “Big Ralph”, as he was known throughout the firefighting community, was a staple at First West Chester, serving the last 3 years as President. He began his career in the volunteer fire service decades ago, when he joined the Good Will Fire Company, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. Ralph then spent time as an active member of the Fame Fire Company, specializing as a member of the Rescue Squad. Finally, Ralph landed at First West Chester, the fire company he came to love and cherish as his second home and family.
Ralph was the model image of a Wessie. He wore his uniform befitting of the honor and respect it commanded. A talented, smart, jack of all trades, Ralph was always able and willing to lend a hand around the fire house. With no shortage of projects in the volunteer fire service, Ralph was front and center ready to tackle the most daunting, to the simplest of tasks.
Ralph dreamed of a place where members young and old could socialize and serve their community. In 2011, Ralph was elected President of the fire company, and began the campaign to make that dream a reality. After over a year of planning and preparation, the company began the construction of a new administration building, doubling the size and functionality of the previous space. Ralph played a major role in the design and construction of the company’s new home, which was completed in the fall of 2012.
Ralph leaves a legacy of hard work, perseverance, and dedication to the membership of First West Chester and all whom he shared his life with. His love of his family, friends, and the fire service will carry with all of us for the rest of our lives.
Visitation and funeral service information will be posted as it becomes available. |
