On September 13th, the box alarm was stuck for the reported chimney fire at the Iron Hill Brewery in the unit block of West Gay Street in the Borough. Calls to Chester County 911 reported a fire in the chimney of the wood burning oven. West Chester Fire Department units responded immediately, but their response was hampered due to an uptown event which resulted in multiple street closures.
West Chester Chief’s arrived on location, reporting nothing evident from the outside. Chief 51 established command, while Assistant 51 and Assistant 52 set up the interior and operations sectors. As units arrived and began to investigate, a light smoke condition inside was discovered. Crews checked all areas of the building and exposures extensively, determining a small fire had been contained to the chimney with no extension.
WCFD units operated on scene for approximately one hour and cleared without further incident.
