| On Thursday, February 23, while on a standby at Delaware County Station 69, Engine 51-1 was dispatched to assist Lancaster Station 3-9 on a commercial building fire. The request came specifically for the piercing nozzle and articulating water-way on Engine 51-1 to extinguish a fire in a large silo containing saw dust and wood shavings from a cabinet factory. Engine 51-1 responded and made the 50 mile trek from Media, Delaware County to New Holland, Lancaster County in just 57 minutes.
Once in New Holland, Engine 51-1 was escorted into the scene and was placed into service. West Chester and Lancaster crews worked together for 2 hours to extinguish the remaining fire. Engine 51-1 returned to Chester County shortly after 2200 hours.
Engine 51-2 responded and covered Delco Station 69 during the incident, answering no additional calls for service.
A special thank you to the Chester County Fire Radio for providing directions and ensuring working radio communications with Lancaster County as wells as the Lancaster County fire companies for their hospitality. |
