Forestry Crew
The First West Chester Fire Company is an active member of the Pennsylvania Forest Fire Warden's Association District 17 as part of the William Penn Wildfire Support Crew. The William Penn Wildfire Support Crew is comprised of 56 members from all across District 17. Pennsylvania is split into 20 districts managed by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Members of First West Chester are certified in PA 130 and S190 as well as the annual "Yellow Card" pack test. This qualifies members to respond to wildfires in and out of district across the Commonwealth. Brush and Squad 51 are also listed as available support vehicles for responses.
District 17 is one of Pennsylvania's largest forestry districts, encompassing Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Bucks, Berks, Northampton, Lehigh, Lancaster, and Philadelphia Counties. Crew members are always prepared for 12 to 48 hour deployments. First West Chester Members have been active with District 17 since 2007 and have responded to multiple large fires in the Commonwealth such as the Penobscot Mountain fire in 2009 which consumed over 2,000 acres and most recently the Hopewell Fire at French Creek State Park in 2012 which burned close to 800 acres of forest.
