Shortly after 3pm the West Chester Fire Department along with Goshen Fire Company were alerted to the 200 block of West Gay Street for a building fire. Initial calls reported flames in a closet and in the walls with the reporting party evacuating. Asst 53 arrived on location to find the same. Engine 51-1 arrived and secured a water supply from a hydrant located in front of the building while crews stretched 1 3/4" handline inside. Crews from West Chester worked to extinguish the fire, and confirmed no extension.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshals office.
