This past weekend three members participated in a 16 hour Firefighter Survival course, hosted by the Chester County Department of Emergency Services. The course was a physically demanding comprehensive program designed to train firefighters on the skills necessary for self rescue in the case of a catastrophic event. As part of the course our members completed evolutions on emergency breathing & SCBA procedures, wall breaching, radio communications, rope and ladder bailouts, and a live burn to demonstrate the effect of closing a door to isolate a fire. Our members also completed an intensive 'confidence maze', which simulated a building collapse scenario with zero visibility and firefighter mayday.

On the second day of the course our members had the opportunity to hear from a Wilmington, DE Firefighter on the tragic events of the day prior in the city of Wilmington. Our thoughts are with our brothers and sisters to the south.

Thanks to the instructors from Chester County DES!
