On January 31 at 1825 hours, Stations 51 and 53 were dispatched to the 300 Block of West Gay Street for a reported house fire. Initial calls to 911 reported a house on fire with flames visible from the first floor windows and one occupant with minor burns. Engine 51-1 made the response and arrived on scene moments later reporting fire showing from the first floor and requested the working fire dispatch.

Command was established by Assistant 53 as Engine 51-1 assumed the first due engine responsibilities. As 51-1’s crew started to advance on the first floor, Engine 51-2 arrived and assumed the second due engine responsibility while Ladder 53 arrived and assumed first due truck. As part of the working fire dispatch, Station 52 and 54/56 (RIT) units were requested and responded.

At 1846 a second alarm was struck for manpower, bringing Station 39 and additional units from Stations 54/56. Command placed the fire under control at 1918 hours. Final units cleared the scene just before 2100 hours. Engine 46-1 covered Station 51 units during the incident.

The fire is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal’s office.
