Remembering Sergeant Richard Geiger

Sergeant Richard Geiger proudly served his communities through the emergency services arena for over 37 years, which included 26 years with the West Goshen Police Department. In July 2013, Richard was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme and lost his courageous battle in July 2014. A glioblastoma is a tumor that arises from astrocytes—the star-shaped cells that make up the “glue-like,” or supportive tissue of the brain. These tumors are usually highly malignant (cancerous) because the cells reproduce quickly and they are supported by a large network of blood vessels.

In honor of Sgt Geiger, a 5K run / 1 mile walk is being held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 2pm in downtown West Chester. The run will benefit the Geiger Children Scholarship Fund and the Brad Kaminsky Foundation, which raises awareness and funs for childhood and adult brain tumor and cancer research.

Registration for the race is available at the Chester County Running Store on South High Street in West Chester Borough or at www.runccrs.com. Registration includes a t-shirt as well as a party with a great spread of food and beverage at the VFW Lodge in West Goshen Township.
