On December 6 at 1216 hours, the Downingtown Fire Department was dispatched to the Chestnut Village apartments in Downingtown Borough for an automatic fire alarm. The assignment was quickly upgraded to an apartment fire after Chester County 911 received a call reporting a kitchen on fire. This added Station 51 for the RIT assignment and Engine 47-5.

Assistant 51 and Engine 51-2 quickly made the response, shortly followed by Engine 51-1. While enroute, Deputy 45 requested a working fire dispatched and confirmed a fire in the kitchen of an apartment. 51 units arrived and established the RIT staging area of the A Side of the building. Crews threw multiple ground ladders on all sides of the structure to allow firefighter egress.

After the fire was placed under control by Command, the RIT was stood down and Station 51 units cleared the scene just after 1305 hours.
