Blizzard ‘Jonas’ Brings Multiple Calls
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Lieutenant Justin McClure
January 25, 2016

As Winter Storm Jonas crippled Chester County, the volunteers of First West Chester responded to multiple incidents during the weather event. The station was staffed beginning Friday night through Sunday afternoon to ensure prompt responses to calls for service. When crews were not responding to incidents, they spent time making sure the fire house was passible for the apparatus to exit and enter the station.

Residents are strongly encouraged to clear their nearest fire hydrant as most have been plowed in by large mounds of snow. When firefighters arrive at the scene of a fire, digging out a fire hydrant could take minutes, when seconds count.

Across the County, multiple Carbon Monoxide incidents have been caused by snow blocking the exhaust pipes of heaters. Residents should check to make sure that the exhaust pipes on the outsides of their homes are clear to ensure proper ventilation. If your Carbon Monoxide detector goes off, call 911 immediately. Carbon Monoxide (or CO) is an odorless, colorless, and tasteless deadly gas that is a byproduct of combustion.
