The Passing of Don "Doc" Dougherty

The Officers and Members of the First West Chester Fire Company regret to announce the passing of Don "Doc" Dougherty. Doc was a 47 year member of First West Chester and will be missed by all who knew him.

Donald M. "Doc" Dougherty, 65 of West Chester, PA died Tues. Sept. 23, 2014 at Chester County Hospital in West Chester, PA Born May 3, 1949 in West Chester, PA he was the son of the late Thomas E. Dougherty and the late Norma A. Lessig. Doc was a proud public servant. He was a life member for The First West Chester Fire Company. During his 53 year tenure as firefighter his positions included, VP, Trustee, Captain, Lieutenant and Engineer. He also served as Firefighter and President of The Malvern Fire Company and was an active member of The Good Fellowship Ambulance Club. Doc was employed by The Chester County Prison for 35 years, retiring in 2005 as Captain, coupled with service as an Auxiliary Police Officer for Easttown and Tredyffrin Townships. Soon after retirement Doc became a Licensed Private Detective and gained employment as a police dispatcher for West Goshen Township retiring early in 2014.

He was a retired active member of Chester County Fraternal Order of Police and member of Calvary Lutheran Church, The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #853, The Blue Knights Motorcycle Club and founding member of The C.T.A.A. He was an Icon at The Square Bar in West Chester, where he occasionally worked as well and will truly be missed by all.

Doc is survived by his daughters, Linda Schellenger of Malvern, PA; Lisa A. Archie (Frank) of Coatesville, PA and Jamme Romanoff (Michael) of Malvern, PA; grandchildren: Sean, Justin, Adam, Ashley, Madison and Julia; brother, Thomas E. Dougherty of Coatesville, PA; step-brother, Eric D. Ruggeri of West Chester, PA and a niece, Shannon.

Relatives and Friends are invited to his visitation from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm on Mon. Sept. 29, 2014 DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. 410 N. Church St., West Chester, PA; 610-696-1181 www.DellaFH.com Doc’s Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Tues., Sept. 30, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Green Mount Cemetery, West Chester PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First West Chester Fire Co., 70 S. Bradford Ave., West Chester, PA 19382.
