Wessies Show Pride in Washington D.C. Parade
By Dave Morris
On July 4th, 2008 Members and
their families began congregating at the firehouse for a light
breakfast before boarding the bus to head down to
Washington D.C. to march in the annual National Independence Day
Parade. The parade route travels along Constitution Avenue, from
7th to 17th street, where thousands of
parade spectators line the sidewalks cheering on each
participant. There are groups that travel from all over the
county to be a part of this patriotic celebration of America’s
birthday.
After the two and
half hour ride to the Nation’s Capital all of those marching
split off from their families to go through security and stand
in position for the march. Around 11:45am the parade began. The
parade itself is so big that First West Chester did not even
step off for close to an hour after the parade had started.
After the parade was
over members began filing back on the bus to head back to West
Chester. Following our arrival back at the firehouse members
relaxed and enjoyed a cookout on the deck.
A big thank you goes
out to both Terri McClure and Reenie McCormack for all of their
hard work over the past months in planning all of the logistics
of this trip. Another thank you to all of the 65 people who took
time out of their holiday weekend to make this event a success
and to show their Wessie Pride.
